2027 BMW i7: The Future of Luxury Electric Driving Arrives

The new BMW i7 represents one of the most significant updates ever applied to BMW’s flagship luxury saloon. Combining cutting-edge electric performance with next-generation digital technology, the latest i7 introduces a bold new design language inspired by BMW’s Neue Klasse models, while continuing to deliver the refinement, comfort and prestige expected from the 7 Series range.

Designed to sit at the pinnacle of BMW’s electric line-up, the 2027 BMW i7 launches with two fully electric variants: the i7 50 xDrive and the more powerful i7 60 xDrive. Both feature dual-motor all-wheel-drive systems, improved battery technology and a heavily revised interior focused on immersive digital experiences and chauffeur-level comfort.

A Sharper, More Refined Exterior Design

BMW has comprehensively refreshed the exterior styling of the i7 for 2027. The front end now adopts slimmer illuminated kidney grilles and a cleaner lighting signature, replacing the split-headlight arrangement seen on the outgoing model. The result is a more cohesive and sophisticated appearance that better aligns with BMW’s upcoming Neue Klasse design philosophy.

At the rear, redesigned tail-lights stretch further into the boot lid, helping emphasise the i7’s width and road presence. Flush door handles, new character lines and optional BMW Individual crystal headlights further elevate the luxury saloon’s premium aesthetic.

BMW’s optional Dual-Finish paint technology also debuts on the updated 7 Series, combining matte and metallic finishes through a highly specialised hand-finished process.

New Battery Technology and Improved Electric Range

Underneath the revised bodywork lies one of the biggest changes to the 2027 BMW i7: BMW’s latest sixth-generation eDrive technology.

The updated 112.5kWh battery introduces new cylindrical battery cells with significantly higher energy density than the previous generation, enabling greater efficiency, improved performance and faster charging speeds.

BMW claims the i7 60 xDrive is capable of delivering more than 350 miles of electric range on a single charge, placing it firmly among the leading long-range luxury EVs available in the UK.

Charging performance has also improved considerably, with the maximum DC rapid charging rate increasing to 250kW. Under optimal conditions, the battery can recharge from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 28 minutes.

The addition of a standard NACS charging port also gives the new i7 access to a broader charging infrastructure, including compatibility with Tesla Supercharger locations via supported charging adapters.

Luxury Meets Next-Generation Technology

Inside, the 2027 BMW i7 introduces a completely redesigned digital cockpit centred around BMW Panoramic iDrive and BMW Operating System X.

A new 17.9-inch floating infotainment display works alongside BMW Panoramic Vision — a full-width projection display stretching across the base of the windscreen.

Every i7 also receives a new 14.6-inch front passenger display as standard, while rear passengers can optionally enjoy BMW’s upgraded 31.3-inch 8K Theatre Screen. Combined with the available 36-speaker Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound system and Dolby Atmos integration, the rear cabin can effectively transform into a luxury cinema lounge.

BMW has also integrated Amazon Alexa+ AI functionality into the latest-generation BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, allowing more natural and conversational voice control for navigation, media, climate and vehicle functions.

Performance Without Compromise

Despite its focus on comfort and luxury, the BMW i7 continues to deliver strong performance figures.

The i7 50 xDrive produces 449hp and accelerates from 0–62mph in around 5.3 seconds, while the more powerful i7 60 xDrive develops 536hp and cuts that time to approximately 4.6 seconds.

Both variants benefit from BMW’s adaptive air suspension, intelligent all-wheel-drive system and advanced recuperation technology, which can automatically adjust regenerative braking based on traffic conditions and navigation data.

The system is even capable of slowing the vehicle automatically for traffic lights and junctions to maximise efficiency and driving comfort.

Practical Luxury for Everyday Use

While the BMW i7 is focused heavily on technology and refinement, it also delivers strong everyday usability for UK buyers.

The large rear cabin provides limousine-like passenger space, making the i7 ideal for executive travel and chauffeur use, while the fully electric platform allows for a flat floor and improved rear-seat comfort.

Boot space remains competitive for a luxury electric saloon, offering approximately 500 litres of luggage capacity, making the i7 practical enough for airport journeys, business travel and long-distance family use.

A True Flagship EV

The 2027 BMW i7 blends traditional limousine comfort with futuristic innovation in a way few rivals currently achieve. From its immersive lighting systems and handcrafted materials to its advanced driver assistance technology and upgraded EV platform, the new i7 pushes BMW’s flagship saloon into a new era of luxury motoring.

With improved range, faster charging, enhanced digital integration and a more refined design, the latest BMW i7 looks set to remain one of the most technologically advanced and luxurious electric saloons available in the UK market.

Its combination of long-distance capability, ultra-modern technology and around 500 litres of boot space also ensures the i7 remains as practical as it is luxurious — proving flagship EVs no longer require compromises in everyday usability.
