Firstly, what has changed on the new Golf 8?

Since the release of the Golf MK1 in 1974, the model has remained as one of Volkswagens most successful and sought-after cars to date. Therefore, there’s been high expectations for the next generation, but does it still live up to the reputation?

Exterior Design

The Golf 8 features bold and sporty lines like predecessors, although, now comes equipped with a leaner and thinner grille.

This sporty hatchback now sits lower to the ground for improved handling, combined with a striking and eye-catching bumper which gives off an imposing look.

Equipped with narrow LED headlights as standard for a futuristic look, the Golf 8 can also come with intelligent lighting!

Interior Design

Golf 8 users have the choice from a 10-colour ambient lighting system for a soothing and relaxing drive.

The innovision cockpit is instantly noticeable, as it now incorporates most of the dashboard buttons into one simple device for improved convenience.

Additionally, the 10.25” High-resolution Digital Cockpit Pro comes as standard and it includes the instrument cluster, infotainment system and a multifunction steering wheel.

Digitally Remastered

The New Golf 8 has been digitally remastered, hosting an array of new Volkswagen Technology to vastly improve user experience, creating the most innovative Golf to date!

The innovision cockpit allows you to create a personal I.D, which will save your driver preferences to your profile for whenever you log in!

The 10” Touchscreen allows you to adjust your drive position, navigation, air conditioning & driver assistance systems. Storing your desired preferences to your personal driver profile!

Head-up Display

With the new “head-up display” optional extra, Golf 8 users can project the speedometer and adaptive cruise control information on to the windscreen, minimizing distractions from the road and improving user safety!

Additionally, Satellite Navigation information is displayed on the digital cockpit, which sits behind the steering wheel.

Voice Control System

Users can now control their infotainment via voice, allowing you to conveniently change the radio station or sat-nav course.

Simply say “Hello Volkswagen” & state your command to activate.

The smart voice recognition system recognises commands such as “I am cold” which will automatically adjust your air conditioning, or “Take me home” which will activate the satellite navigation.

Car2XCommunication

The new Car2XCommunication system is wirelessly connected to other Car2X vehicles around you, providing users with the most up-to-date traffic information.

Further, it will adjust the Adaptive Cruise Control when in heavy moving traffic.

Connectivity

Volkswagen Golf 8 users can also add ‘We Connect’ which allows them to schedule their next service, get breakdown assistance and access the online anti-theft alarm.

Further, users can upgrade to ‘We Connect Plus’ for real-time traffic updates.

Dynamic Chassis Control

Driving the New Golf 8 allows users to choose from 3 driving modes, depending on their driving style and requirements.

Comfort – Offers the smoothest ride possible

Sport – Ideal for those looking for a firmer, more responsive driving mode

Eco – Adjusts the configuration of the car, to save on fuel and drive more economically

Also, the new Golf 8 comes equipped with an XDS locking differential as standard for improved handling and driving comfort.

Driver Assistance

The new Golf 8 is available with a wide array of driver assistance systems such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Park Assist and Travel Assist. Each of which, are explained below:

Park Assist – available as an optional extra, the Park Assist system displays your reverse path and shows whether or not your vehicle will fit into the parking space.

Moreover, the system will pick the best starting position for the manoeuvre, steering the car automatically.

Even though you don’t need to steer, you’re in complete control of the vehicles’ acceleration and movement.

Additionally, all trim levels will come equipped with front & rear parking sensors!

Adaptive Cruise Control – Automatically controls and adjusts the acceleration and braking of the vehicle, helping the driver maintain a steady and safe speed.

Travel Assist – Activated via a button on the multifunction steering wheel, the travel assist system combines several driver assistance systems and can be used at speeds up to 210kmh. It uses Adaptive Cruise Control & Lane Keep Assist to control the acceleration and braking of the vehicle, maintaining a steady speed whilst ensuring you maintain a safe distance. Travel assist comes as standard on GT models upwards, although, is a cost extra on lower trim levels.
