Engine
Under the bonnet, you will find the incredible 4.4-Litre ‘S68’ twin-turbocharged V8 engine which produces 482bhp. Combined with the electric motor, it will churn out an impressive 653 bhp, making it the fastest M car to ever be released!
If that was not enough, BMW has announced the development of the BMW XM Label Red, which is expected to produce an astonishing 738bhp, meaning it could easily outshine the Aston Martin DBX 707!
Hybrid Driving
Another first for BMW M, is the introduction of their first hybrid system. The plug-in hybrid system supports the V8 engine.
It is equipped with a 29.5 kWh battery pack which allows up to 50 miles of pure electric driving. The hybrid system directly supplies a 148bhp electric motor that is integrated into the eight-speed automatic gearbox.
Performance
Both the V8 engine and the hybrid system have their own distinctive individualities, although, they combine to create the characteristics expected from a M car!
With a combined output of 653bhp delivered to all four wheels, the BMW XM can sprint from 0-62mph in just 3.4 seconds, making it just 0.1 seconds slower than the more expensive Ferrari Purosangue.
Exterior
On the exterior, BMW has unapologetically opted for an aggressive and distinctive look that immediately grabs your attention.
It is difficult to unsee the overgenerous styling of this XXL SUV, and you would certainly feel it’s presence as it hurdles toward you in your rear-view mirror.
Domagoj Dukec, head of BMW Design, states “The design of the BMW XM is an extravagant statement by BMW M at the heart of the luxury segment. It has a resolutely unique identity and embodies an expressive lifestyle like no other model in the BMW line-up”.
Interior
On the interior, BMW has opted to blend futuristic luxury with sport and comfort. A set of carbon fibre gear shifters are located behind the leather multifunctional steering wheel alongside carbon trim around the dash.
Whilst on the dashboard, it’s hard to miss the new curved display screen, which incorporates both the driver instrument cluster and the 14.9” touchscreen infotainment system.
Occupant comfort is not an issue, thanks to the stunning leather sport seats, which are finished off with XM in the headrests. Of course, the seats are heat and ventilated and upgrading to the comfort package will include front seat massage functionality.
Users get a Harman/Kardon Surround Sound Premium Audio System as standard.
Price & Verdict
As you’d expect, the BMW XM doesn’t come cheap. Due to the wealth of styling and technology that’s included, prices start from £150,000! That being said, it is still excellent value for money.
Despite similar performance figures, it is £49,000 cheaper than the Aston Martin DBX707 and a whopping £163,000 cheaper than the Ferrari Purosangue.
